We wrote "Took a Job" in our old practice space at Wheaton, MD. At the time, we were a quartet. JCoile, who started the band with me, played a spiky guitar line that other people funnily had a hard time replicating.
"Took a Job" is a humorous take on full-time employment and the expectations that society, and oneself, ultimately impose on each other.
lyrics
I took a test, was unimpressed
I took a test if any
I took a job, I took a job
I took a job, today
I drank some wine, I drank some wine
I drank some wine again
And I danced all night, I danced all night
And then I thought the thing was
Listen to your body as it pushes through the day
Listen to your lover as he leaves you for a friend
Make sure that, make sure that
Make sure that you go honest and employed
List of the faces, a place with many names
List of the places, born out of your mistake
Make sure that, make sure that
Make sure that you don't end up all alone
I got something to show you,
I got something to show you
I learned a lot, I told a lie
I got something to show you,
I got something to show you
I went out, I did the thing
I took a job, took a job
I went out, I did the thing
I took a job, took a job
took a job
